[July 28, 2025] As I continue to reflect on my aging and my desire to continue to serve God, I look back at my role model for aging: Pop Orloff, my maternal grandfather.
When Pop finally retired from Bucyrus Erie Company in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he moved to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, where my father was the director of Lake Geneva Camp and Conference Grounds.
With all of his engineering skills, Pop would find a project that was needed to make the camp or conference grounds run more effectively. This often involved improving existing equipment to plow snow more efficiently. Most of Pop's work utilized his skills in developing new equipment.
I would then look at what I could do, yet the hands-on projects were few and fr between.
Coming up with the idea to write my book seemed so much more fulfilling to me. Counseling, Life Coaching, and leading young men to become disciple-makers were more in line with what motivated me. It was then I realized I wasn't staying in my Core Self.
Pop was one who used brawn. His projects usedbody to produce a satisfying outcome. I was one who used brain. I used my mind to stimulate others to grow in grace and to recognize how they could better serve the Lord.
It was not implying that one was better than the other. Each could serve God with different outcomes to honor and glorify God.
My retirement and aging goals became more focused, and I found a parallel to Pop's goals for aging.
Pop lived to 94. Given my doctor's view of my health, he saw me living with longevity. In the past six months, I encountered some major health issues that were wake-up calls from the Holy Spirit.
I had been video binging and juat living waiting for my life to end. While the reality was I could live into my 90s. Home healthcare made me aware of the importance of exercise. How boring! My need to eat healthier to manage diabetes.
And to remain open to finding young men that the Lord would have me disciple.
In the pasat month, these three goals have become my commitment to living the next decade of my life in service to the Lord. Daily exercise to build my strength and balance to enhance my mobility so i am physically available to serve others.
To continue to be refreshed by God's Word as a means of being equipped to equip others.
And then to write first a book on healing that incorporated all the yers of working with wounded people. Other topics have come to mind which can teah and motivate believeers to grow and serve the Lord.
I trust thaat you will see the Spirit of God at work in me and thereby encourage you to serve Him too.
It means I need to post my journey so you may see how God is using me as evidence how He can also use you..Just walk in faith!
Thank you for letting me share with you.
